I've finished the writing of the manuscript for a new book to be published in 2010 entitled The Media Economy. Hopefully the book will be available during the summer of 2010. The publisher is Routledge, and I am excited about this project which has been two years in development.
The Media Economy takes a fresh look at the subject of media economics, and breaks away from traditional views to offer some new thoughts and perspectives. I look forward to seeing the book published, and for an exchange of views on this blog in the future.
The Media Economy is a blog created by Dr. Alan Albarran, Professor of Media Management and Economics at the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas. This blog offers comment and analysis on the changing domestic and global media landscape, with an emphasis on the broadcast, cable/satellite, and Internet industries. Dr. Albarran is the author of 12 books and teaches workshops and seminars all over the world. He also serves as a consultant to media organizations and the business community.

Recommended Reading
I just finished reading the book The Long Tail by Chris Anderson. This is an extremely intersting book with a lot of detailed information about the media and entertainment industries. I highly recommend it to anyone trying to make sense of the evolving media landscape.
The book is an easy read, but certainly poses a lot of challenging ideas and questions about the continuing role of traditional media (no, Anderson does not predict the fall of television) and the growth of new media, especially innovations like blogging and the whole Google phenomenon.
Good stuff.
